Relay London Jobs is funded by the London Development Agency (LDA) through its Olympic Legacy Directorate and is part of a broader employment and skills remit.

The LDA is working with the five East London host boroughs and partners such as the Learning and Skills Council and Jobcentre Plus on a number of initiatives to ensure that Londoners are equipped with the right skills at the right time to access the employment opportunities arising from the 2012 Games and their legacy.

Some of these initiatives include the Personal Best volunteer programme, London Employer Accord, Opportunities Fund, Train to Gain, and Women into Construction Projects.

The LDA is also using the spirit of the 2012 Games to encourage Londoners to make life-long changes in their approach to physical activity and participation in sport. Sports programmes such as the Summer of Sport and Winter of Sport programmes have been developed to help create a lasting legacy of fit and healthy Londoners and to support and encourage potential champions of the future to shine.

Podium Skills London works with Further Education and Higher Education institutions across London to make sure the 2012 Games leave Londoners better and more appropriately skilled to stay in long-term employment. At a practical level we work with our partners to identify industry specific skills shortages in the run up to the 2012 Games. We then promote these sectors, and direct people to the right training to fill these current or future skills gaps.

Personal Best is a training and volunteer programme, aimed at helping people furthest from employment into long term, sustainable jobs.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games will require 70,000 games time volunteers. The Personal Best programme aims to prepare people for this challenge by offering training and volunteer opportunities in the lead up to 2012 and beyond – ultimately aiming to encourage 20,000 people into work. It offers all participants a Level 1 qualification while all graduates of the programme who successfully apply for a Games Time Volunteer role will be guaranteed an interview.
