David Smith has started work as a Cleaning Supervisor on the Olympic site, after a Relay member, Tomorrow’s People, submitted his CV in response to a Relay London Jobs vacancy.
David was made redundant after his contract as a Specialised Cleaner came to an end, and after two months of looking for work he met with Tomorrows People.
“I’d never been out of work for that length of time since my first job in 1964, and I was feeling really frustrated that I wasn’t getting any responses to applications despite sending out hundreds of CVs. The Jobcentre told me about Tomorrows People and I can’t say enough good things about them. They’ve been excellent and really helped me. They gave me the confidence to take the security training exam, have kept in contact with me and are always there to help. Greg did up my CV with the right words and format, and that was definitely what got me the interview for the Cleaning Supervisor. Now I’m starting a great new job and I also have my SIA licence to fall back on if I need it.”
When David was attending the SIA training, Greg Mavroudis, Employer Engagement Officer at Tomorrow’s People, met with him to discuss his experience and what work he was looking for. Greg explains;
“I’d kept in touch with David and as soon as I saw the advert for a Cleaning Supervisor from Relay London Jobs I thought of David, and sent his CV straight over. A few weeks later David had an interview and was offered the job straight away”.
Nicholas Prempeh recently secured a job as an Accounts Assistant on the Olympic Park on a construction project, that was advertised through Relay London Jobs. He had been supported by Relay member The Brokerage Citylink for several months after being out of work for a while. His adviser Surma Waheed explained:
“When he approached us, Nicholas was looking to update his skills, so I put him forward for various workshops and training courses to help build up his confidence. These included the IT course ECDL, workshops in interview skills and job applications. We also supported him in job searching. Nicholas made good use of our services by coming in regularly for advice and guidance."
Nicholas was delighted with securing the 2012 role after wanting to work in accounts for some time. He said:
“Relay London Jobs and The Brokerage have been great in helping me to develop skills to seek employment. Amongst all they provided me with the job I am in today and for that I am very grateful."
